“Porcelain – A white vitrified translucent ceramic; china”
Porcelain is a very hard and dense ceramic material. It can be quite brittle and requires a certain delicate touch when restoring. Porcelain is not very permeable and therefore the restorers job is to identify suitable restoring materials when undertaking porcelain restoration.
I work from home in my state of the art studio in East London, South Africa.
I have had 10 years experience in undertaking porcelain restoration and so it really is a major part of my work. When I fix porcelain, I use a wide range of resins, bulking agents, hand painting and airbrushing in order to bring the old, broken antique back to its former glory.
Quite a few of my clients are porcelain and ceramic antique collectors who regularly bring their broken items to me. They trust me to fix their items and bring them back to their original state. When undertaking porcelain repairs, I am able to recreate fine textures and use the exact coloring to bring the ornament back to life.
